Marta Kostyuk Foundation Launches School Tennis Integration Project in Lviv Region

6 mins read

The Marta Kostyuk Foundation announces the launch of the “School Match Point” project aimed at integrating tennis into physical education classes in Lviv and the Lviv region. As part of the initiative, two competitive selections will be held: one for professional coach-ambassadors, and another for general education schools and physical education teachers who are eager to implement tennis in their curricula.

The goal
is to make tennis accessible to children even with limited infrastructure, so that classes can be held in standard gymnasiums without the need for specialized courts. is to make tennis accessible to children even with limited infrastructure, so that classes can be held in standard gymnasiums without the need for specialized courts.

Why this matters

In Ukraine, most teenagers do not reach the recommended level of physical activity: 83% of girls and 71% of boys fall short. Additionally, 68% of children spend more than three hours a day on screens, and 21.9% of seven-year-olds are overweight or obese. The situation is worsened by issues with sports infrastructure, a shortage of coaches, and the destruction of sports facilities. Access to tennis is particularly limited: most courts are located in large cities, while in smaller ones they are nearly nonexistent.

“We live in a time when children move less, attend school less regularly, and have little access to sports. Tennis is not about elitism — it’s about health, discipline, and development. In Ukraine, this sport is often inaccessible: there’s a lack of infrastructure, equipment, trained personnel, and teaching materials. Thanks to our cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ukrainian Tennis Federation, the Lviv City Council, and international partners such as Wilson and the WTA Foundation, who are supporting us with equipment, we can make a real contribution to the development of children’s sports. This year alone, we plan to involve 15 schools and introduce over 5,000 children to tennis, opening up new opportunities for physical development, social integration, and a healthy lifestyle. We’re not just dreaming of change — we’re already making it happen,” commented Marta Kostyuk, founder of the Foundation.
