Tennis Development
in Ukraine Study

Sep 2024—Jan 2025 Finished

About the project

Tennis Development in Ukraine — is a study by the Marta Kostyuk Foundation, carried out together with the research company Gradus. It examines the accessibility of tennis for children and teenagers, the key barriers to its development, and the opportunities for growth. We surveyed children, parents, coaches, athletes, representatives of the Tennis Federation of Ukraine, media, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the data we gathered became the foundation for our programs.

What we learned

33 %

Children want to play tennis in PE classes

76 %

Parents say their city lacks opportunities for tennis lessons

94 %

Parents support their children’s professional tennis career

How we studied tennis in Ukraine

The State of Tennis in Ukraine

In-depth interviews with athletes, coaches, and representatives of the media, the Tennis Federation of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, focused on the key challenges facing tennis development.

Tennis Families

A survey of children and parents involved in tennis, exploring motivation, career expectations, and prospects for development in the sport.

Physical Education in Schools

A survey of children and parents on the quality of PE classes, the state of sports infrastructure, and interest in various sports, including tennis.

Why this matters

The study found that interest in tennis in Ukraine is high, but access to it remains uneven. A lack of accessible infrastructure, financial barriers, and an insufficient number of regional programs prevent many children from reaching their potential in the sport. These findings shaped the direction of the Marta Kostyuk Foundation's work and became the foundation for the programs that help make tennis more accessible to children across Ukraine.
